Focus Activities:

  • Ask your children what they think are typical Pets in other countries.
  • Ask them to make a list of what they think the top 10 pets are in the USA. How many of them can they name in Spanish?
  • Now ask them to read this brief article about pets in Spain. Is it much different than the USA?
  • Extra time: Have your child research typical pets in a country of their choice.

Spain is pretty much like any other country when it comes to pets. Perros y gatos are by far the most popular ones among families with children, as well as adults without children. Other popular family pets include conejos, guinea pigs y hamsters, followed by pájaros y peces. Don't expect exotic pets when you visit Spain.

Spanish families who live in the countryside or away from cities are different. They may have less usual pets, or typical farm  animals like caballos y cerdos.
