Unit 1, Lessons 7-10

The Language Project Spanish Program Musketeers Level Family Focus

In level 1, students spent session 3 learning about food. Here are some great ideas to recycle and include language practice at home.

Focus Activities:

  • Make some treats!
    • This is a great time of year for baking and an even better time to practice some Spanish.
    • Grab your favorite cookie or cake recipe. Make a list of the ingredients you will need in Spanish.
    • Name the ingredients as you add, mix and taste your goodies. I give one "taste" per ingredient they name correctly.
    • Have your child tell another family member about the treat they made, the ingredients it called for etc.
  • Holiday meals:
    • Allow your child to pick their favorite family meal IF they name it in Spanish. (or at least make an effort as they may not know how to say something specific)
    • Have your child name the colors of the foods as you take them out to prepare your holiday meals. Try motivating them to start using full sentences. "Es rojo" o "La patata es roja."
    • Have your child form phrases about their favorite holiday meals using "Me gusta…" / "No me gusta…"

Does your child try to get out of eating certain foods? Sweet potatoes? Broccoli? Great time to practice talking about dislikes.
