Unit 1, Lessons 4 - 6
The Language Project Spanish Program Explorers Level Family Focus
Your child is learning a NEW LANGUAGE! There is nothing better than watching them gain confidence with each and every class. Here are some of the topics we’ve covered in recent classes that you can reinforce at home.
Focus Theme: Talk about feelings.
Focus Phrases: ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?), Estoy contento.(I’m happy.), Tengo miedo. (I’m afraid.), Estoy triste. (I’m sad.), Tengo sueño. (I’m tired.) Tengo hambre. (I’m hungry.), Tengo sed. (I’m thirsty.)
Focus Audio: Learning a language is a process. Here are some steps for how to use the audio links at home to take your child from just saying isolated words to being able to form sentences by piecing together the language puzzle.
- Step 1:Play the Emotions audio link, pausing to allow time for you &/or your child to repeat the words. Focus on imitating the pronunciation you hear in the links.Emotions - Emociones
- Step 2: Once your child is comfortable with the vocabulary, try playing the Emotions audio link images but silence the speaker. See if your child can say the words with the images.
- Step 3: Now play the "Frases con emociones" audio link. Two images will appear of a boy or a girl and a different emotion. Your child will practice forming sentences about the pictures. Ex: Boy image & Scared image. "El niño tiene miedo."Sentences with Emotions - Frases con Emociones
Family Focus Activities:
- Let's amp up our daily routine! Can you think of times you could ask your child if he is hungry or sleepy? How about just how he or she is doing?
- Bedroom door signs- Let your child create images of different emotions and create door signs. Then let your child hang the signs on their door with the most appropriate one showing.
- Ask your child to teach you the movements to Hola, Hola Chicos as they sing it. Great practice for Tengo hambre. (I’m hungry.), Tengo sed. (I’m thirsty.), and Tengo sueño. (I’m tired.)
Is this everything? There’s a lot more that we cover in class, and each lesson builds on the prior lessons. These are the key phrases that we encourage you to practice at home.
