mañana (Until tomorrow) leon (lion), serpiente (snake), araña (spider), gato (cat), zorro (fox), hormiga (ant),

Focus Activities

  • Listen, see and believe!
  • Use the video flashcards below to get your fist glimpse into some of the vocabulary your child is being exposed to Spanish Club.
  • Use favorite stuffed animals pretending to introduce themselves to each other in Spanish. Ask how
they are doing. (¿Cómo estás?) Respond with a thumbs up or down (Bien or mal)
  • Pretend and move around like different animals and guess what you are each pretending to be in Spanish of course!
  • Animal sounds: Say an animal and let your child make the appropriate sound or action. Trade roles: let them identify an animal while you make the sound or action.
  • Animal parade: Children love to put on shows for their parents and each other. Let children pretend to introduce each animal in the parade and then do their best impression of it walking by. Put on the song “Camina de los animales” (Animal Walk) from their CD for accompaniment.
  • Point to each of the animal pictures and ask “What does Profe call this?” (It is easier for a child to identify what the teacher says at this point than answering “What is this in Spanish?”

Note: Children can understand and physically respond to language they hear long before they can actually speak. Language production is not the goal yet. We just want to play with the language and have fun. If you aren’t having fun change things up so you are. Your efforts will be more pleasant and effective.
