The Language Project Spanish Program Chimps Level Family Focus

Objective: Review and practice story vocabulary (Getting ready for bedtime). Review and practice colors. Differentiate between positive and negative statements.

Focus words/Phrases: ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?), Estoy (I am), Está (He/she/it is) contento/feliz* (happy), triste (sad), cansado (tired), enfadado/enojado* (angry), Tengo hambre. (I am hungry.), Tengo sed. (I am thirsty.), Tengo sueño. (I am sleepy.), Tiene hambre/sueño/sed. (He/she/it is hungry/sleepy/thirsty.) ¿Estás cansado? (Are you tired?) Estoy cansado. (I’m tired.), No estoy cansado. (I’m not tired.), abrazar (to hug), besar (to kiss), cantar (to sing), beber leche (to drink milk), tocar el violin (to play the violin), leer un cuento (to read a story), dormirse (to go to sleep), despertarse (to wake up), osito de peluche  (teddy bear), colors

Focus Activities:

  • How you doin’? Audio Flash Cards – Start making sentences and phrases using emotions.
    • Listen to the audio flash cards together.
    • Race the announcer.
    • Act out each card.
      • Try doing it together while watching the cards go by.
      • Then let your child act out the emotion while only listening to the cards.
    • Now take it to your world.
    • Ask each other throughout the day ¿Cómo estás? And respond in Spanish.
    • Make this part of your daily routine.
      • Ask in the morning
      • Before and after meals
      • After school
      • Before bed
    • Listen to the audio links.
  • Toy Time Line-up! – Line-up favorite toys to see how they are doing and who wants to do what.
    • Let your child line-up several of his favorite toys.
    • Encourage him to ask each one ¿Cómo estás?
    • Let your child then pretend to be each toy and respond in Spanish.
      • Estoy contento. ¡Estoy enfadado! Etc.
    • Encourage your to continue the conversation in any way he wants.
      • ¿Qué quieres? ¿Quieres tocar el violín? ¿Tienes sed? ¿Quieres leche? Etc.
      • Quiero correr. Sí, quiero tocar el violín. Sí, tengo sed. No quiero leche. Quiero agua.
      • Listen to a simple here.
    • Let your child designate one special toy that only speaks Spanish.
      • That toy can help other toys and tell your child what they are saying.
      • Encourage your child to only use Spanish with that toy, since it only understands Spanish.
