The Language Project Spanish Program Lions Level Family Focus

Hace mucho frio! We hope you're all bundled up in your chaquetas! In Unit 2, students are learning about clothes and weather. Try some of the activities below to reinforce the vocabulary, phrases and concepts and help your child jump ahead in their journey towards bilingualism.

Objective: Become familiar with different clothing items.

Focus Words: camisa (shirt), pantalones (pants), pantalones cortos (shorts), falda (skirt), calcetines (socks), zapatos (shoes), chaqueta (jacket), pijama (pajamas)

Family Focus Activities:

  • Make a Spanish Snowman:
    • Bundle up and head outdoors to make and dress a Spanish snowman
    • Count the snowballs, name the body parts added to the snowman.
  • Plan ahead:
    • Have your child pick out their clothes the night before and tell you what they chose in Spanish.
  • Read: As you are reading with your child, it is always good to stop and ask questions about the characters, story or illustrations. Try asking a few inSpanish. Point to the picture and ask…
    • ¿Cómo se llama? What his name?
    • ¿Cuántos años tiene? / How old is he?
    • ¿Qué lleva? / What´s he wearing?
    • ¿Qué color es? / What color is it?
    • ¿Cuántos hay? How many are there?

Is this everything? There’s a lot more that we cover in class, and each lesson builds on the prior lessons. These are the key phrases that we encourage you to practice at home.
