Unit 3, Lessons 1-5

The Language Project Spanish Program Adventures Level Family Focus

We are now into the final unit of Level 2- Adventurers Spanish. We encourage you to keep reinforcing at home whenever possible and bridge the gap between school and home.

Acquiring a new language requires time and practice just like learning to play the piano, a sport or any new hobby. Whether you have 5 minutes or 50, try sneaking in some additional practice for your language learner this week.

Objectives: Become familiar with basic physical descriptions of people.

Focus Vocabulary: alto (tall), bajo (short), delgado (thin), joven (young), viejo (old), moreno (black hair), rubio (blonde hair), peliroja (red hair/ginger), castaño (brunette/brown hair)

Focus Activities:

  • Descriptions
    • Allow your children to look through a magazine and cut out a picture of their favorite athlete, pop star or actor/actress.
    • Now practice writing or describing their selected person. Here are some cues:
      ¿Quién es? ¿Cómo se llama?
      ¿Cuántos años tiene?
      Descríbelo físicamente:
      ¿Qué hace?
Hint: Who is it? What´s his/her
  • Go back to the basics with audio links:
    • Look and listen to the audio links with your child.
    • The first time, just listen.
    • After that, say the words along with the speaker.
    • Next, try racing the speaker.
    • End by trying to say the words with the volume down.
    • Do each step in this process as many times as possible until it is very comfortable, and your child is very successful. Try doing this on multiple days, as long as it remains fun for your child.

Note: Depending on the age of your child, their writing abilities will be more or less advanced. If they are frustrated doing the writing component, just ask them to answer the basic questions orally. They will be able to do it!
