Unit 2, Lessons 4-6
The Language Project Spanish Program Adventures Level Family Focus
Our students have blasted into the new year and will be learning the months of the year to go along with our clothes topics. This is such an easy topic to practice and reinforce at home. Try one of the ideas below!
Objective: Become familiar with the months of the year
Focus Words: enero (January), febrero (February), marzo (March), abril (April), mayo (May),junio (June), julio (July), agosto (August), septiembre (September), octubre (October), noviembre (November), diciembre (Diciembre)
Focus Activities:
- Did you know that in Spanish they don't capitalize the months of the year?
- Have your child make their own calendar. Ask them to draw a picture of whatever they associate with each month. What do you associate with each month?
- Ask your child different questions (in English): What month is your birthday? When is Christmas? Students should respond with the month in Spanish.
- Make your own flashcards with the months of the year. Hide them around the room and play "Time Trials." Time your student as they run to find all 12 months of the year and put them in order. To stop the clock they then must name all 12 months.
- Ask your child to dance the months of the year "Macarena Style." Watch this short clip of some middle school students to give you an idea.
