The Language Project Spanish Program Chimps Level Family Focus

Objective – Introduce food vocabulary. Practice good manners using “por favor” and “gracias”. Practice introductions and polite responses.

Focus words/phrases: plátano (banana), manzana (apple), pera (pear), Hola (Hello), ¿Cómo te llamas? (What’s your name?), Me llamo… (I call myself…), Encantado conocerte. (Pleased to meet you.), Mucho gusto conocerte. (Pleased to meet you.), por favor (please), gracias (thank you)

Focus Activities:

  • The Gang’s All Here – Use favorite toys to practice introductions.
    • Encourage your child to line up some of his favorite toys for introductions.
    • Now choose the newest toy to ask all the others who they are.
      • New toy: Hola. Me llamo… ¿Cómo te llamas?
      • Old toy: Me llamo…
      • New toy: ¡Mucho gusto conocerte!
      • Old toy: ¡Encantado!
    • Variation: You and your child each choose a toy and introduce yourselves to each other.
    • Variation: After introductions ask each other how you are doing.
      • ¿Cómo estás?
      • Estoy contento. (I’m happy.), Estoy triste. (I’m sad.), Estoy enfadado. (I’m angry.) Estoy cansado. (I’m tired.)
    • Variation: Ask each other what you want to do.
      • ¿Qué quieres hacer?, ¿Quieres saltar? ¿Quieres correr?
      • Quiero jugar. (I want to play.)
    • Listen to samples here.
  • Catch Me Being Good! – “Catch” your child using good manners in Spanish.
    • Encourage your child to use “por favor” and “gracias” whenever she asks for something.
    • Each time she uses them correctly connect a dot on her Good Manners chart below.
    • See how many dots she connects each day and by the end of the week.
    • Reward her for completing the chart by sitting down and playing one of her favorite Spanish games.
